We, the Collective Action of Independent Iranian Women, extend our condolences to the grieving families, workers, and people of Iran for the tragic explosion in Bandar Abbas, which has resulted in the deaths of dozens of workers of all genders and injured more than 1,200 people.
The Islamic Republic of Iran, by continuing to conceal the facts of this deadly explosion and censoring the media, aims to cover up its irresponsibility regarding human lives for the sake of its adventurous objectives. It has downplayed the incident as a mere “negligence” and, through its security and judicial apparatus, is pursuing whistleblowers and journalists who have reported on the causes of this tragedy.
This deadly explosion, which coincides with the anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, took place in a warehouse storing hazardous chemicals, including sodium perchlorate — a key component of missile fuel. It once again reveals the incompetence and unfitness of the Islamic regime in Iran. The catastrophe is being compared to the Beirut port explosion in 2020.
While the Iranian rulers’ disregard for human life is deplorable, the public solidarity in aiding the victims of this disaster is admirable.
On the occasion of International Workers’ Day, we stand in solidarity with all imprisoned and death-sentenced workers, including Sharifeh Mohammadi.
