Against War, Military Aggression, and the Repressive Islamic Republic Regime

We, 23 independent Iranian women’s organizations, firmly condemn the military aggression by Israel against Iran and all acts of war-mongering in the Middle East. This attack is a continuation of the genocide in Gaza, backed by the United States and the European Union, and exploited by the Islamic Republic regime’s provocations and warmongering rhetoric.

From our perspective, such aggression risks escalating the suppression of progressive and freedom-seeking movements inside Iran—movements in which women have stood at the forefront for over four decades, resisting all forms of gender-based, class-based, ethnic, and national oppression in pursuit of a free and dignified life. These attacks also threaten the hard-earned gains of the revolutionary “Woman, Life, Freedom” movement, which has evolved from a 46-year-long struggle, including the major uprisings of December 2017 and October 2019. We are especially concerned that in the heart of today’s turmoil, opportunistic factions seek to hijack the demands of this revolutionary uprising for their own purposes.

We strongly oppose all forms of militarism—nuclear or otherwise—in Iran and around the world. In times of war and occupation, women face compounded violence—not only from bombs and bullets but also from the very structures that have long marginalized their lives. War places an even heavier burden on women—economically, psychologically, and in caregiving. It restricts access to vital resources for mothers, caretakers, and survivors, while simultaneously reinforcing patriarchal, authoritarian, and repressive social orders through militarization. In these conditions, sexual, racial, economic, and political violence become intertwined, and women’s bodies and lives are once again turned into battlegrounds. These policies do not bring security; rather, they serve to enable a privileged few to seize global resources and tighten control over the lives of the majority.

In conclusion, we align ourselves in solidarity with the statement that:

“The liberation of the Iranian people from the dictatorship ruling our country can only be achieved through the efforts of the masses and the power of social movements.”

(Quote from four imprisoned political activists at Evin Prison: Reyhaneh Ansari, Sakineh Parvaneh, Verisheh Moradi, and Golrokh Iraee.)
